About the Walk
Living with HIV/AIDS is not a death sentence, it’s a battle. It’s a battle that doesn’t need to be fought alone.
Support, passion and love can make a difference, and 26 years ago Positive Living BC launched the first Canadian AIDS WALK to prove it. Since then they have been walking strong. They have been walking for a change. They have been walking for life.
As of 2009, HIV/AIDS affected some 67,000 Canadians, 13,000 of whom live in BC. The Scotiabank AIDS WALK for LIFE spreads awareness of this reality and raises vital funds for those living with HIV and AIDS in our community.
But, the battle is on-going. As we go into our 26th year we have set our sights high because we believe the fight can be won. To do this, we need your
involvement.
Register now and WALK with us on September 18th, 2011.
Donation Dollars
“But it’s just a donation…” in reality, it’s a lifeline.
All proceeds raised by the Scotiabank AIDS WALK for LIFE in Greater Vancouver become part of Positive Living BC’s Complementary Health Fund (CHF).
CHF? What’s that?
The CHF reimburses low-income HIV-positive members for health expenses not covered by other plans ─ up to $35 monthly. Even little things such as drinking filtered water and getting the right vitamins can determine the fate of someone with a compromised immune system.
Positive Living BC has over 5000 members, many of whom can’t afford the high costs of staying healthy. Currently we can only meet the needs of 583 members per month - only 12%.
In 2011, we had to cut the CHF from $55 to $35 a month due to reduced WALK revenues over the year. Help us change and reverse this trend in 2011. Every dollar you raise will help Positive Living BC extend this valuable service to more HIV-positive members in need across the province.
Ask each sponsor to donate $105 to help reach 3 HIV-positive members across BC.
