August 20th - 27th
“DO SOMETHING for AIDS Week” is a week where you get to do something fun, ridiculous, bizarre or outlandish for donations that will benefit British Columbians living with HIV/AIDS. Or, if you want, you can do something exceptionally mundane. It’s up to you.
This is your moment to shine, to make a fool out of yourself, to unleash your creative, slightly twisted genius, to do something weird for a great cause. Or something not so weird. Whatever.
The important thing is that you get off your butt (or don’t, see examples) and “do something” with the aim of raising money for people in BC living with HIV/AIDS.
Because after careful experimentation and statistical analysis, we’ve discovered that people enjoy having fun.
With this revelation in mind, we decided it was high time to put the “fun” back in fundraising. And no, not because we really wanted an excuse to say that, but because the two truly are mutually compatible!
However, the real point is that thousands of British Columbians living with HIV/AIDS are in critical need of your help, and you have so much untapped potential to make that happen!
We thought you’d never ask! Luckily, we have taken the trouble to break it down for you.
Get your teammates and friends involved, or do it solo. It can be an event that raises money through ticket sales, etc, or simply something that people would pay money to see you pull off.
Step 2: Register for the AIDS WALK, if you haven’t already
This is where you register.
“DO SOMETHING for AIDS Week” is a fundraising event that falls within the greater scope of the WALK. Once registered you can receive online donations and create a personal fundraising page to assist you in soliciting pledges.
Step 3: Fill out the online waiver and application
Basically we want to know what you’re doing because we want in on the fun. And also because, well, we need to approve your idea so things don’t get too out of control. We have a reputation to uphold.
This is where you can find the application and waiver.
Step 4: Prepare your “something” so that you’re ready to hit the ground running once August 20th arrives
Warn your neighbors, buy that razor, stock up on fluorescent spandex, practice your dance moves, purchase the raffle tickets, meditate. Spread the word about what you’re going to do and why. Let everyone know that the reason behind your madness is to improve the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS, and that the least they can do is open their wallets. Update your Facebook status with what you’re going to do, and post a link to your fundraising page.
Step 5: Go get ‘em! This is your moment
Show the world what you’re made of. Get out there, get weird, and make a difference in your community.
Step 6: Pat yourself on the back and marvel at your ingenuity
Also, make sure to send us pictures of you doing your thing so that we can post them on our webpage!
Although intuitively we think you may already know the answer to that question, allow us to stimulate your creative juices with some examples:
