WHAT IS A TEAM?

A team is a group of co-workers, students, church members, families and/or friends that pre-register, raise money and enjoy the WALK together. Teams can range in size from five to 500, and are credited with raising an amazing $160,000 last year! Teams offer a wonderful way to create camaraderie, motivate and challenge each other. Be creative deciding on a team name. If your group is a business or organization, your team name can provide great advertising and awareness. If you’re WALKing with family and friends, come up with something silly and fun!

How do I form a team?

  1. Designate a Team Captain (or co-captain).
  2. Call Monica, the WALK Fundraising Coordinator, at the Scotiabank AIDS WALK office at 604.646.5351 or register online now.
  3. Invite co-workers, customers, family and friends to join or support your team!

Being a Team Captain

Your primary role as a team captain is to promote the Scotiabank WALK for LIFE within your organization and to recruit as many fundraisers/walkers as possible. You will also be the main contact for your team with the WALK Fundraising Coordinator, Monica. She will give you updates and breaking news regarding WALK Teams.  Feel free to contact her at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for fundraising ideas or tips on recruiting new team members!

Here are some steps to get you going right away:

  • Download the Team Captain's Toolkit [PDF, 724 KB]

  • Set up your TEAM’s website.
  • Recruit team members!
  • Educate your team. Invite someone from our office to speak at one of your staff meetings and encourage team members to know why they are WALKing. Visit the BCPWA website to find additional information about HIV and AIDS.

  • Organize FUNdraising activities at work!
